Rama Rao Gogineni, MD, AASP Councilor and Past President, received the 2024 George Tarjan Award during the APA Annual Meeting in New York City in May. Named after APA’s first international medical graduate (IMG) president, the George Tarjan Award was established by the American Psychiatric Association in 1992, and recognizes a physician who has made significant contributions to the enhancement of the integration of IMGs into American psychiatry.
Dr. Gogineni received the award during his Award lecture on Gratitude – Immigrants and International Medical Graduates. He has shared his lecture slides with the AASP community.
Dr. Gogineni is Professor of Psychiatry, Cooper Medical School of Rowan University, as well as Senior Educator in Developmental Psychiatry at Cooper. He is the current President of the Association of Family Psychiatry (AFP), and is Chair of the Family Committee, Group for Advancement of Psychiatry (GAP).
